VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers make important contributions to basic library programs and services.  Library volunteers shelve books, repair books, tutor adults, read at childcare centers, teach computer classes, and assist with the Friends of the Library used book sales.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO TEACH COMPUTER CLASSES

The library needs volunteer tutors to help teach our popular computer classes: Internet/Computer Basics, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
Tutors work with a team to provide self-paced, small group instruction. Classes meet on Wednesdays from 10-11:30 am or 5:30-6:30 pm.

DAYCARE STORYTIME VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The San Marcos Public Library is looking for volunteers who would enjoy sharing their love of children’s books with kids in the childcare centers of San Marcos. Each volunteer spends one morning a week reading to three and four-year-olds in one childcare center. To join the library’s group of readers, call Susan Smith at 393-8200.

If you’d like to volunteer, you may download the volunteer application or pick up a copy on your next visit to the library.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

Friends of the Library membership donations are used to help the library grow.  The Friends purchase furniture, equipment, and materials for the library collection.  They also help fund our wonderful children's programs.  Please join or renew your membership today!

The Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization dedicated to strengthening the library through fund-raising, volunteer work, and advocacy.   New members are always welcome.  Click here for the Friends membership application.  (Membership Application (PDF)

The Friends meet annually and sponsor two giant used booksales and several volunteer appreciation events each year. Friends' used booksales are held at City Park Recreation Hall and are a great place to pick up bargains on used books.  Donations of gently used books for the booksales are always welcome.  You may drop them off at the library throughout the year.

GIFT IDEAS FOR ANY OCCASION

Buy gifts and help the library year round. We have two sizes of bookbags for the book lover in your family. We also have a nice selection of gently used books.

Looking for a low-carbon gift for the eco-minded? Make a donation to the library and place a book in that person’s honor for all of San Marcos to enjoy. Call the library for more information.

MAKE A DONATION IN HONOR OF SOMEONE YOU LOVE

You may make a donation to the library “IN MEMORY OF” or “IN HONOR OF” someone you love.  We will acknowledge your donation by placing an appropriate book in the library collection in memory of or in honor of the person that you designate.  An attractive bookplate in the book will be a permanent reminder of your thoughtful gift.

If you are interested in making a memorial or honor book donation, please fill out this downloadable Memorial Donation Form (PDF) and mail it to the San Marcos Public Library, 625 E. Hopkins Street, San Marcos, TX 78666 along with your donation of $25 or more.
